About this Event

Join the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail , WalkArlington, and George Washington Memorial Parkway for a nature walk on the Mount Vernon Trail under the glow of the Beaver Moon. We'll meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking lot. Once people have gathered we will walk south on the Mount Vernon Trail while taking in views from the trail of the monuments at night. Near Memorial Bridge we will stop to learn about the Beaver Moon, explore the planets via a telescope, and look at the stars. You don't want to miss out on this special opportunity.

Note: Don't worry about bringing a telescope, one will be provided.

The walk is about 1 mile (one way) and will end back at the parking lot around 8:00 p.m.

Things to bring:

  1. Flashlight (preferably with red light setting).
  2. Reflective vest if you have one -- we will have some extras.
  3. Bring layers/dress for the weather

Inclement Weather:

If it is an overcast night the walk will still occur, but the telescopes won't be available.

In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled and a notification will be sent via e-mail by 5 p.m. the day of the event. Rain date is Monday November 18th.

Getting there:

By foot or bike: The meetup spot is located on the Mount Vernon Trail near the bridge going to Theodore Roosevelt Island off the parking lot.

By public transportation: Take metro to Rosslyn stop and walk .5 miles to the meetup spot.

By car: Parking at Theodore Roosevelt Island

Donations:

The event is free, however if you would like to make a donation to support our work to improve the Mount Vernon Trail, we suggest a $10 donation amount at the time of checkout.
