Shane Hudson-Connor (guitar, lead vox) picked up the clarinet in third grade and tried out for the Sisters Middle School concert band as an eight year old. Although he was politely rejected by Mr. Lindell, who pointed out his unawareness of an accidental in the sixth measure of the piece, he continued playing woodwind instruments throughout the early school years. He studied jazz under Jody Henderson at Sisters High School and pursued it until 2006, departing from his jazz studies major at the UO to pursue other academic interests. Since then he has played in many genres, from touring with the ska band The Longshots for several years on the west coast, to recently dedicating most of his time to flatpicking on the guitar with the Moon Mountain String Band.
Arden Kaltenbach (lead vox, guitar) is an old-time and bluegrass musician based in Eugene. While studying voice at the University of Oregon, they joined the folk punk band, Foraging, and the Moon Mountain String Band. Arden plays guitar and banjo and specializes in traditional folk singing and harmonizing. Pairing their classical vocal background with the raw roots sound of folk singing, Arden is constantly exploring that high lonesome sound.
Dylan Plummer (banjo) is an environmental organizer and musician in Eugene. When he’s not playing music with Moon Mountain and his honky tonk band Emerald City Roadkill, he likes to hang out with his dogs in the woods.
Albert Yang (mandolin) is a Eugene-based mandolinist. With the versatility of the mandolin providing a foundational rhythmic essence and the ability to highlight melodies and lead playing as heard in bluegrass music, he fell in love with the instrument years ago. Originally starting his musical journey in percussion, then to other stringed instruments, the mandolin was a perfect instrument to bridge percussive and melody based playing. Albert plays locally with bluegrass musicians and frequently plays shows for the community and to share his love for bluegrass and Americana music.
Chicago native Sarah Wilfong (fiddle) worked as a session musician, arranger, and educator in Nashville for 15 years before relocating to Eugene to pursue a Doctorate in Violin Performance at UO. She has released two solo albums of original and traditional fiddle music, and her playing and arranging have been featured on numerous albums, including the 25th anniversary reissue of Roy Orbison’s Mystery Girl album.
Zach Wallmark (Dobro) has a day job as a music professor at the UO. When not in the classroom or doing research, he plays jazz bass, bluegrass Dobro, and Japanese shakuhachi flute. Zach’s currently writing a book on the cultural history of musical instruments in American life.
Dave DeBlaker (bass) studied music at Colorado Mountain College. He’s played in a series of garage bands since he was 16. When not playing bass he spends his time petting dogs and W**d whacking.
