Why Support Group?
The experience of domestic violence can leave survivors feeling a variety of overwhelming and complex emotions including confusion, hopelessness, insecurity, shame, anger, and loss. This domestic violence therapy group can offer survivors of abuse the opportunity to explore these emotions along with other crucial components to healing such as dealing with the reactions of family and friends, community response and possibly explore earlier traumatic experiences. The premises of healing from domestic abuse is based on the interweaving of the trauma, recovery, and empowerment psychological models. Safety planning, community resources to include medical, legal, and social services, mental health wellness, and other needs will be addressed.
In group, survivors find a common voice which conveys acceptance and emphasizes personโs power to heal. The group facilitates a safe environment where women/men can feel heard, supported, and empowered in their journey towards healing.
