Exploring tropical marine fish biodiversity and

At my last ACE presentation, in March 2022, I looked ahead at my retirement scuba diving plans. Since then I have spent 11 months diving in the Red Sea, Philippines and Indonesia. I discovered several putative new fish species, one that I discovered previously has been scientifically described, and many adventures were made below and above the surface.
In December 2022, the COP15 meeting in Montreal created 'Vision 30x30', the decision to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030, to preserve biodiversity. But in the oceans we know rather little about the existing biodiversity, especially for species that are not of commercial interest. This further stimulates me to use my retirement to help fill this gap in our knowledge. It doesn't hurt that it is also very enjoyable, rewarding, and an excuse to escape Edmonton's long winters.
