In this presentation, Lisa will share her research on white- and blue-collar crime in Aotearoa. She will talk about the differences in how white- and blue-collar offenders are treated at the points of investigation, prosecution and sentencing. Lisa will also show the different resourcing attached to investigating and prosecuting white- and blue-collar crimes in Aotearoa. Sentencing guidelines will be discussed as a potential solution to improve equity, transparency and justice.Dr Lisa Marriott is Professor of Taxation at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Lisa is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand. She has previously worked in industry as a Financial Controller and Accountant in the private sector in the United Kingdom; and in the New Zealand public sector. For the past 15 years, Lisa has worked in academia. Lisa’s research is interdisciplinary covering disciplines including sociology, political science and criminology. Lisa’s research interests include taxation, social justice and inequality.
