PANEL: Kit of Parts, Right Sized: Panelized & Modular Construction in Concrete, Steel & Wood
About this Event

Join AIA Brooklyn for our monthly chapter meeting followed by an insightful panel discussion on modern construction methodologies.

During the brief business portion of the evening, we will hold a vote for the nominating committee to select board candidates for the 2027-28 term.

Following the meeting, we will transition into our featured panel, "Kit of Parts, Right Sized: Panelized & Modular Construction in Concrete, Steel & Wood." This session will explore the latest advancements, design considerations, and practical applications of panelized and modular construction across concrete, steel, and wood systems.

Panel Description:

This course introduces panelized and modular construction for single-family residential and small public buildings. Because components are fabricated in a climate-controlled facility under quality-controlled conditions, this construction method reduces construction time and improves efficiency in both material usage and installation. A co-benefit of these well-built structures is greater resiliency and fire resistance, which provide health, safety, and welfare advantages for occupants and the public. These buildings offer protection from environmental events such as hurricanes and heat waves while also delivering high-performance envelopes, daylighting, and amenities such as green roofs. Panelized and modular buildings can be constructed from concrete, steel, or wood, and this course presents case studies and an overview of the differences in working with each material.
