Event Conducted by the: PAPUA NEW GUINEA VOLUNTEER RIFLES EX-MEMBERS ASSOCIATION All Australian Commando Association Members are invited.
The service is in memory of the 1053 Australian Military and civilians, including 133 members of the 1st Independant Company (Commando) and 36 members of the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles, who lost their lives as prisoners of war during the sinking of the Japanese Naval prison ship “Montevideo Maru” on 1 July, 1942.
This tragic event is still today the largest loss of Australian lives at sea.
Venue: At the Post World War 11 gallery in the tunnel underneath the Cenotaph at ANZAC Square, Brisbane.
Timing: Services commences 10am.
Dress: ANZAC Day dress with large medals
