Many mythological representations of women and gender diverse people were moulded from a mistrust or fear of us: of our bodies, our knowledge, our emotions, our sexuality, our collectivity, our complexity, our connections to nature, our ambiguity, our ability to transform. This exhibition of work by FLINTA* artists takes these myths, along with Lauren Elkin’s recent book, Art Monsters: Unruly Bodies in Feminist Art, as a provocation for both individual and collective pieces; researching, critiquing, queering, reinterpreting, reclaiming or subverting these narratives.
