Monday Night Jam Session: NoMAD at the Blue Room
About this Event
"Roam to where the love is," Marcel Daly writes of the name. "No mad, all joy." He sang the featured set at the Blue Room's Monday jam in September, and he's back the Monday after Christmas with Desmond Mason on keys, Andrew Voggesser on bass, and James Ogutu on drums.
Daly grew up in Bellevue, Nebraska, graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and toured Shizuoka, Japan, and Beijing with the school's jazz program. He's played Vine Street Brewing Co. and the Phoenix here in Kansas City, the Dreamland Lounge back in Omaha, Nublu in New York, and Iberostar in Mexico.
Under his own name he works in theater. He has appeared with the Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, The Coterie, and KC Melting Pot Theatre, and he says he's played stages from KC Rep to New York's Minskoff Theatre.
The featured set is his own songs. In July he released "G.R.E.A.T. (Get Real, Even America Trippin')," his first hip hop single, produced by Vincent Orsolini. In October he posted Donny Hathaway's "Flying Easy," which he transcribed himself because he had never seen a chart for it. That's one he'd love to record, he says, if he ever makes a jazz album.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Monday, December 28, 2026, at 7 pm. $10 general admission; complimentary for AJM members, musicians, and students.
