About this Event

Jaylen Ward grew up with Kansas City jazz in the family. Playing with the James Ward Band — his father on bass and his mother on keys — he learned early how to listen, support a song, and help a band find its momentum.

Ward earned three DownBeat Student Music Awards while studying at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Monday brings the drummer back to the Blue Room for the featured set before the bandstand opens to the jam. Come to play or come to listen: this is where musicians across generations get to meet in the music.
