Monday Night Jam Session: Angela Ward & Friends at the Blue Room
About this Event
If you know the Blue Room, you know Angela Ward. She's been part of this room since the 18th & Vine district reopened in 1997, when she wandered in during the opening festivities and sat down at the piano. Nearly three decades later, she's still here — one of the most respected keyboardists in Kansas City jazz.
Angela studied classical piano before discovering jazz at Florida A&M University. She's served as Musical Director for Jazz Night at the Sunflower Music Festival, conducted an 18-piece orchestra, and performs multiple times a week across the city with The James Ward Band. Her playing blends classical precision with jazz feel — harmonic sophistication that never loses the groove.
For Monday Night Jam, Angela steps out front with a hand-picked group of friends for the featured set, then the stage opens up. Bring your instrument. Bring your ears. This is Kansas City jazz in its most natural form — musicians playing together, feeding off each other, and making something new in the moment.
Cover: $10 general public; free for AJM members, musicians, and students. The featured set starts at 7 pm; sign up at the door to sit in.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Monday, July 27 at 7 pm.
