BALBOA PROGRESSIVE SERIES EVERY MONDAY IN JUNE 2024• 7PM LESSON WITH HARBOR CITY SWING
• 8-10PM SOCIAL DANCE FEATURING BALBOA AND BLUES
• Free entry, $5-15 donation encouraged
• No partner or experience necessary - just come dance!
This month we'll be hosting Harbor City Swing, Norfolk's swing & jazz dance community, for the 7pm lesson with their progressive series on Balboa, a style of swing dancing known for its subtlety and cozy partnership - and also the dance you do when you're tired and the song is fast ? It is such a fun dance that makes you feel so slick and cool. You heard it here first: dance with us and be super slick and cool ?
This is a progressive series that will build upon what was worked on the prior week; we recommend planning to attend all the lessons to get a firm foundation, and get the most joy out of the dance!
For those brand new to swing/jazz dances (or new to dancing period!), there will be an instructor available for a drop-in Blues lesson to get you movin’ and groovin’ for the social dance ?
The social dance will feature music for Balboa and Slow Bal (which you can also Blues to! ) in the first hour, and in the second hour will be DJs choice of their mix of Blues (which could range from Slide Guitar Blues to Big Band Jazz to Contemporary RnB - “Blues is the roots” after all ?)
Free entry, $5-15 donation is encouraged to help pay for the space; all other donations go to future events and becoming an official nonprofit!
No partner or experience necessary - just bring your lovey self (and your friends! And their friends! And theirs!)
