Monarch Migration Celebration

Join the Master Gardeners and the Volunteer Team in the Museum Garden for our Monarch Migration Celebration. As fall approaches, many animals are preparing for migration, and the monarch butterfly is no exception. Monarchs emerging this time of year will not stay in the area for long as they prepare to fly all the way to the mountains of central Mexico.
During this event, you can observe monarchs and other pollinators in the Museum Garden, see a release of some monarch butterflies, and learn about tagging butterflies to study their migration patterns. You can also try out nature-themed optical illusions called thaumatropes: with one twirl, you can see monarchs enjoy milkweed, a butterfly emerge from their chrysalis, and a hummingbird drink nectar.
Activities included with General Admission on Aug. 28.
