About this Event
Join the Land Trust for a stroll through monarch butterfly heaven!
Western monarch butterflies come to Ellwood Mesa, Goleta and other butterfly groves in coastal California where they spend the winter between November and February each year. So let’s go visit them and learn about their life’s journey. After visiting the monarchs in their eucalyptus grove, we’ll follow the footpaths through the Ellwood Mesa and learn about the coastal grasslands and keep our eyes peeled for birdlife and other wildlife, and of course enjoy the wide open ocean and mountain views.
We’ll be walking on level-to-undulating terrain. Total walking mileage is 2-3 miles. No bathrooms or water available. Meeting spot will be Coronado Drive. Street parking available. Binoculars will greatly enhance butterfly viewing! Please do not disturb the neighbors.
Land Trust Treks are a free, public series of guided hikes for the community to explore scenic Santa Barbara County and to meet your local Land Trust.
