Du 25 au 27 octobre, les facilitatrices du Jam Annuel de Montréal 2024, Valerie Sabbah et Stéphanie Gaudreau, en collaboration avec les enseignantes invitées Sarah Zucchero (NYC) et Gabrielle Revlock (NYC & MA), vous invitent à Momentum, un week-end préparatoire avec une programmation de C.I. soigneusement façonnées, alliant les fondamentaux, l’affinement des outils et les pratiques d’harmonisation communautaire.
Momentum est conçu comme un flux menant à la semaine de l’Intensive avec Karen Nelson et au Jam Annuel de Montréal 2024, tissant ensemble une fin de semaine pour se rassembler en tant que communauté, créer une cohésion et s’immerger dans une expérience collective.
C’est un espace pour approfondir notre compréhension de la pratique, réfléchir à ce que signifie participer à un jam, et explorer nos valeurs essentielles.
Nous avons conçu 5 beaux ateliers pour les débutant·e·s et les praticien·ne·s expérimenté·e·s, encourageant des réflexions sur les compétences, la communauté, l'inclusion, et les manières possibles de bâtir une pratique de jam précieuse, curieuse et joyeuse !!
Embarquons ensemble vers l'incroyable Jam Annuel de Montréal 2024, une culmination qui embrasse l'ESSENCE de l'Improvisation en Contact tout en construisant des ponts au sein de la communauté montréalaise et au-delà !!

Entrez dans l'inconnu et découvrez l'art du Contact Improvisation. Conçu pour celles et ceux qui sont curieux·se·s de savoir ce qu'est vraiment un jam — que vous soyez un·e débutant·e complet·e ou que vous cherchiez à ralentir et redécouvrir la pratique — cet atelier vous invite à explorer, réfléchir et jouer avec le flux du mouvement.
Facilité par Valerie Sabbah et Gabrielle Revlock, cette soirée immersive vous entraînera dans un voyage de mouvement, où vous explorerez comment :
-Arriver dans l'espace, ancrer votre énergie et vous connecter au sol, à votre corps et à l'environnement.
-Entrer dans un jam d'Improvisation en Contact avec intention et conscience.
-Rediriger votre danse ou improvisation en cours de mouvement, en suivant les transitions naturelles du mouvement et de la connexion.
-Communiquer de manière non-verbale — en utilisant votre corps, votre souffle et votre intention pour "parler" et vous connecter avec les autres.
À travers des exercices guidés et une exploration libre, vous approfondissez votre compréhension de l'art de bouger avec les autres dans un jam. Nous prendrons le temps de ralentir et de décomposer les éléments clés qui font du jam une expérience unique et dynamique.
Cet événement est ouvert à tout·e·s — des débutant·e·s complet·e·s aux praticien·ne·s expérimenté·e·s. Les danseur·se·s expérimenté·e·s, votre sagesse et votre générosité créeront un environnement accueillant et bienveillant pour les nouveaux·elles venu·e·s. Construisons ensemble un espace où chacun·e peut s'épanouir, explorer et redécouvrir ce que signifie bouger avec les autres.
Après l'atelier, nous plongerons dans un Jam de recherche : un espace d'expérimentation et de jeu. Ici, nous mettrons en pratique les concepts explorés et ouvrirons le sol à la réflexion. Qu'est-ce que cela signifie vraiment d'être dans un jam de Contact Improvisation ? Comment naviguons-nous la connexion, le lâcher-prise et la communication sans mots ? Vous aurez l'occasion d'explorer toutes ces questions et bien plus encore.
Dans cet espace, tout·e·s sont invité·e·s à amener leur être entier. Nous honorons l'inclusivité comme principe directeur, accueillant les communautés QT//BIPOC. Ce cours invite à une dynamique collaborative où l’écoute, la curiosité, l’inspiration, le courage et la transformation par le toucher sont au cœur de la pratique. Le Contact Improvisation repose sur la relation du point de contact, un espace de dialogue en mouvement, qui nécessite une compréhension approfondie de ses fondements et une volonté engagée pour son évolution. Nous aborderons des éléments clés de cette discipline, particulièrement adaptés aux débutants, en mettant l'accent sur la sensibilité kinesthésique, le dialogue du poids, l'en'jeu' de saisir son centre gravitationnel et le perdre. À travers une démarche de recherche continue, nous nous pencherons sur les prédispositions qui facilitent l’entrée en contact, ainsi que sur ce qui nourrit et enrichit cette relation, dans un équilibre fluide entre action et somatisation.

Gabrielle Revlock offrira des outils et techniques pour allumer des danses d'« innovation mutuelle et de soutien » (Steve Paxton). Nous volerons et tomberons, au sol et hors du sol, en contact et hors du contact, debout ou à l'envers, explorant les aspects spatiaux, temporels et tactiles de l'Improvisation en Contact. Une attention particulière sera portée au développement d’une conscience tridimensionnelle accrue pour activer l'espace sphérique et créer des danses dynamiques. En affinant notre attention à travers le jeu, ses cours d'improvisation en contact invitent à l'expérimentation, à la prise de risques et à une curiosité joyeuse.

Rejoignez-nous pour un atelier immersif en Contact Improvisation et un jam conçu pour explorer la riche dynamique de l'inclusion, du consentement et de la création collective de l’espace jam.
Lors de cette rencontre spéciale, nous nous rassemblerons en tant que communauté, chacun·e avec notre présence unique, contribuant à la beauté de l'ensemble. Par la réunion de nos individualités, nous créons quelque chose d'extraordinaire—un ensemble vivant et vibrant de connexion.
Cet atelier est particulièrement conçu pour accueillir les communautés QT/BIPOC et toutes les personnes cherchant un espace où leurs voix et leurs corps sont honorés et célébrés. Nous nous engageons à favoriser un espace où chacun·e, quel que soit son parcours, son identité ou son expérience, se sente en sécurité, vu·e et valorisé·e. Notre objectif est de créer une pratique de Contact Improvisation qui incarne réellement l'inclusivité et célèbre la diversité au sein de notre communauté.
L'atelier se concentrera sur le développement des compétences fondamentales de confiance, de consentement et de mouvements de soutien. À travers une série d'exercices, nous explorerons comment écouter notre « non » et notre « oui » intérieur, et développer la confiance nécessaire pour naviguer entre les limites dans la danse et dans la vie. Ensemble, nous approfondirons notre compréhension de la manière d'honorer à la fois notre propre corps et celui·e de nos partenaires, en veillant à ce que chaque interaction soit ancrée dans le respect et le soin mutuel.
Dans la deuxième partie de l'atelier, nous plongerons dans la joie de la chute, du soutien et du jeu en duos et trios, explorant l'essence de la connexion. Nous cultiverons un sens du flux et de la composition, trouvant la présence et la légèreté dans chaque moment de danse.
L'atelier se clôtura par un jam de Contact Improvisation. Guidé·e·s par la facilitation sensible de Sarah, nous bougerons comme un ensemble cohésif, canalisant l'énergie du groupe pour créer une expérience collective où chaque personne est bienvenue et vue. Ensemble, nous célébrerons la beauté de la co-création—à l'image des racines interconnectées des arbres qui soutiennent la forêt.

Le Contact Restaurateur (*RestorativeContact.com*) est une pratique d’accordage en duo conçue pour cultiver l’ancrage à travers l’attention au moment présent. Utilisant le toucher comme ancre principale, les participant·e·s seront guidé·e·s à travers une chorégraphie au sol, principalement axée sur le partage de poids et le toucher, en utilisant différentes surfaces du corps. Le cours avance à un rythme où nous avons le temps de digérer l'expérience qui se déroule. À travers cette pratique, les participant·e·s affineront leur capacité à écouter à travers la peau et à relâcher les tensions inutiles, émergeant avec un profond sentiment de paix et de calme. Suivant une séquence définie, l’atelier progressera vers plus d’improvisation et inclura des moments de verbalisation. Les participant·e·s sont encouragé·e·s à venir avec un·e partenaire choisi·e ou à en choisir un·e à leur arrivée. Débutant·e·s bienvenu·e·s.

🌀BIOGRAPHIES DES FACILITATRICES🌀
✨ Gabrielle Revlock✨
Gabrielle Revlock est une chorégraphe postmoderne de renommée internationale avec plus de vingt ans d'expérience en tant que praticienne du Contact Improvisation. Alors qu'elle vivait à New York, elle faisait partie du corps enseignant de Movement Research, l'un des laboratoires les plus réputés au monde pour l'exploration des formes basées sur le mouvement, et a été une facilitatrice régulière pour le Brooklyn Jam et le Wednesday Jam à Soho. Parmi ses autres engagements d'enseignement en CI, on compte CI@50, la School for Contemporary Dance & Thought, Philadelphia Dance Projects, Salt Spring Island Contact Improvisation Festival, Dance New England Dance Camp et Earthdance. Créatrice du *Restorative Contact*, une pratique de toucher conscient, elle a été conférencière invitée à l'Embodiment Conference, à la Dance & Somatics Conference et à la Future of CI conference. Lauréate du prestigieux prix New York Dance and Performance « Bessie », elle a également reçu des financements pour sa chorégraphie de nombreuses fondations et organisations. À l'international, elle a performé au Japon, aux Pays-Bas, à Singapour, en Hongrie, en Russie et en Inde. Gabrielle détient un MFA en Performance et Chorégraphie de Smith College ainsi qu’un BA en Histoire de l'Art de Vassar College.

✨ Stéphanie Gaudreau ✨
Stéphanie Gaudreau est enseignante en Contact Improvisation et approches somatiques depuis plus de 30 ans, avec une pratique privée active depuis 1996. Elle a étudié et s’est inspirée auprès de figures majeures du CI et de l’improvisation, dont Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Kirstie Simpson Simone Forti et bien d’autres encore ! Cofondatrice de l'Association de Contact Improvisation à Montréal (2001), elle a joué un rôle clé dans l’essor de cette pratique au Québec, tout en organisant des événements avec des artistes internationaux. Installée en Estrie depuis 2010, elle a fondé « Danse Orée des Bois », un lieu dédié à l'exploration du mouvement. Ses recherches s’enrichissent de pratiques somatiques comme le Feldenkrais®, le Body-Mind Centering® et l'ostéopathie, ainsi que de disciplines telles que le Kung-Fu, le travail du Chi et des traditions spirituelles vivantes.

✨ Valerie Sabbah✨
Valérie Sabbah est une chorégraphe, enseignante et thérapeute psychosomatique basée à Montréal. Sa pratique et recherche en Contact Improvisation, développée sur 17 ans, s'inspire spécifiquement de FIGURE SPACE, une formation de quatre ans avec Steve Paxton (Material for the Spine) et Lisa Nelson (The Tuning Score). Cette formation profonde a remodelé son approche du corps en mouvement, embrassant une perspective à 360 degrés et sphérique qui alimente sa curiosité sur les réflexes naturels du corps et sur la manière dont celui-ci réagit ou non dans des états d'urgence perçue. Au cœur de la scène C.I. de Montréal, elle propose une programmation dynamique comprenant des cours hebdomadaires de différents niveaux, des jams engageants, et des ateliers intensifs de maître avec des enseignant·e·s invité·e·s tels que Mark Young, Kristen Lewis et Stu Philipps. En tant que psychothérapeute somatique, Valérie intègre le C.I., le BMC, la thérapie cranio-sacrale et l’art-thérapie dans ses séances. Elle guide les femmes pour les aider à s'ancrer dans leur corps, à développer leur résilience et à renforcer leur force intérieure.

Sarah Zucchero est une artiste de danse, facilitatrice de rituels festifs, enseignante de Reiki, hypnotiseuse, travailleuse corporelle, collaboratrice, amie, et praticienne de Contact Improvisation. Dans ses moments libres, elle aime étudier les mysticismes du monde et les traditions magiques. Actuellement, elle traverse un processus de dissolution de ses propres habitudes robotiques et désuètes, comme répondre automatiquement « Bien ! » lorsque quelqu'un lui demande comment elle va, même si cela peut être faux. Elle s'intéresse maintenant davantage à l'exploration du décalage étrange de la vérité et à être en présence des vérités qui se trouvent là. Chaque danse que nous souhaitons avoir vit déjà en nous, et la joie de se retrouver ensemble réside dans le moment où nos systèmes se relâchent suffisamment pour libérer ces danses.

First Steps: Slow Jamming into the Heart of Contact Improvisation

Step into the unknown and discover the art of Contact Improvisation. Designed for those who are curious about what a jam truly is—whether you’re a complete beginner or someone looking to slow down and rediscover the practice—this workshop invites you to explore, reflect, and play with the flow of movement.
Facilitated by Valérie Sabbah and Gabrielle Revlock, this immersive evening will take you on a journey of movement, exploring how to:
-Arrive in the space, grounding your energy, and connect with the floor, your body, and the environment.
-Enter a Contact Improvisation jam with intention and awareness.
-Redirect your dance or improvisation mid-flow, following the natural shifts of movement and connection.
-Communicate nonverbally—using your body, breath, and intention to “speak” and connect with others.
Through guided exercises and open exploration, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the art of moving with others in a jam. We’ll slow down, take our time, and break down the key elements that make a jam such a unique and dynamic experience.
This event is open to everyone—from complete beginners to seasoned movers. Experienced dancers, your wisdom and generosity will create a supportive, nurturing environment for newcomers. Let’s build a space where everyone can thrive, explore, and rediscover what it means to move with others.
After the workshop, we’ll dive into a Research Jam—a space for experimentation and play. Here, we’ll put the concepts we’ve explored into action and open the floor for reflection. What does it really mean to be in a Contact Improvisation jam? How do we navigate connection, release, and communication without words? You’ll have the chance to explore all these questions and more.
In this space, all are invited to bring their full selves. We honor inclusivity as a guiding principle, welcoming QT//BIPOC communities. This is a dance floor where all bodies, all stories, and all expressions belong, where we move in harmony with the vibrant diversity that makes us whole.

This class invites a collaborative dynamic where listening, curiosity, inspiration, courage, and transformation through touch are at the heart of the practice. Contact Improvisation is based on the relationship of the point of contact, a space for movement dialogue, which requires a deep understanding of its foundations and a committed willingness for its evolution. We will explore key elements of this discipline, particularly suited for beginners, with a focus on kinesthetic sensitivity, weight dialogue, and the playful challenge of finding and losing one's center of gravity. Through a continuous research approach, we will delve into the predispositions that facilitate the entry into contact, as well as what nourishes and enriches this relationship, striking a fluid balance between action and somatization.

Gabrielle Revlock will offer tools and techniques to ignite dances of "mutual innovation and support." (Steve Paxton) We will fly and fall, on and off the ground, in and out of contact, right side up and upside down, exploring the wide-ranging spatial, temporal, and tactile aspects of contact improvisation. Particular attention will be given to developing a heightened three-dimensional awareness to activate spherical space and dynamic dances. Honing our attention through play, her contact improv classes invite experimentation, risk-taking, and joyful curiosity.

This workshop is especially designed to welcome QT/BIPOC and all who seek a space where their voices and bodies are honored and celebrated. We are committed to fostering a space where everyone, regardless of background, identity, or experience, feels safe, seen, and valued. Our goal is to create a Contact Improvisation practice that truly embodies inclusiveness and celebrates the diversity within our community.
The workshop will focus on building the foundational skills of trust, consent, and supportive movement. Through a series of exercises, we will explore how to attune to our inner “no” and “yes,” developing the confidence to navigate boundaries within the dance and in life. Together, we will deepen our understanding of how to honor both our own bodies and those of our partners, ensuring that each interaction is rooted in respect and mutual care.
In the second part of the workshop, we will dive into the joy of falling, supporting, and playing within duets and trios, exploring the essence of connection. We will cultivate a sense of flow and composition, finding playfulness and presence in each moment of dance.
The workshop will conclude with a Contact Improvisation jam. Guided by Sarah’s sensitive facilitation, we will move as a cohesive ensemble, channeling the energy of the group to create a collective experience where every person is welcome and seen. Together, we will celebrate the beauty of co-creation—much like the interconnected roots of trees that support the forest.
This workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to experienced dancers, and seeks to create an inclusive, welcoming environment where every participant, regardless of experience or background, can find their place and feel held by the group. Come with an open heart, and leave with a renewed sense of belonging and connection.

Restorative Contact
Facilitator : Gabrielle Revlock
Restorative Contact (RestorativeContact.com) is a partner attunement practice designed to cultivate grounding through attention to the present moment. Using touch as the primary anchor, participants are guided through a primarily floor-based choreography of touch and weight-sharing, using a variety of surfaces of the body. Class moves at a pace where we have time to digest the unfolding experience. Through the practice participants will tune their ability to listen through the skin and let go of unwanted tension, emerging with a deep sense of peace and calm. Following a set sequence, the workshop will progress into more improvisation and include verbal processing. Students are encouraged to participate with a chosen partner or select a partner upon arrival. Beginners welcomed.

✨Gabrielle Revlock
Gabrielle Revlock is an internationally touring postmodern choreographer with over twenty years of experience as a practitioner of Contact Improvisation. While living in New York, she was on faculty at Movement Research, one of the world’s leading laboratories for the investigation of movement-based forms, and has been a regular facilitator for the Brooklyn Jam and Wednesday Jam in Soho. Additional CI teaching engagements include CI@50, the School for Contemporary Dance & Thought, Philadelphia Dance Projects, Salt Spring Island Contact Improvisation Festival, Dance New England Dance Camp, and Earthdance. As the creator of Restorative Contact, a mindful touch practice, she has been an invited speaker at the Embodiment Conference, Dance & Somatics Conference, and Future of CI conference. She is a recipient of a New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award and has received funding for her choreography from numerous foundations and organizations. Internationally, she has performed in Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hungary, Russia, and India. Revlock holds an MFA in Performance and Choreography from Smith College and a BA in Art History from Vassar College.

✨Stéphanie Gaudreau
Stéphanie Gaudreau is a Contact Improvisation and somatic approaches teacher with over 30 years of experience, and she has had an active private practice since 1996. She has studied with and drawn inspiration from major CI and improvisation figures like Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Kirstie Simpson, and Simone Forti. She co-founded the Montreal Contact Improvisation Association in 2001 and has been instrumental in the growth of the practice in Quebec, organizing events with international artists. Since 2010, she has been based in Estrie, where she founded “Danse Orée des Bois,” a space dedicated to movement exploration. Her research is enriched by somatic practices such as Feldenkrais®, Body-Mind Centering®, and osteopathy, along with Kung-Fu, Chi work, and living spiritual traditions.

✨Valerie Sabbah
Valerie Sabbah is a Montreal-based choreographer, teacher, and psychosomatic therapist. Her 17-year CI practice and research draws specifically from FIGURE SPACE, a four-year training with Steve Paxton (Material for the Spine) and Lisa Nelson (The Tuning Score). This profound training has reshaped her approach to viewing the body in motion, embracing a 360-degree and spherical perspective that captivates her curiosity about the body’s natural reflexes and how the body will or will not respond in states of perceived urgency.
At the heart of Montreal’s CI scene, she curates dynamic CI programming. Her offerings include varied-level weekly classes, engaging jams, and master class intensives featuring celebrated guest teachers like Mark Young, Kristen Lewis, and Stu Philipps. As a somatic psychotherapist, Valérie’s sessions weave together CI, BMC, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, and Art Therapy. She guides women to ground themselves in their bodies, develop resilience, and anchor their personal strength.

✨Sarah Zucchero
Sarah Zucchero is a dance artist, facilitator of party rituals, a Reiki teacher, a hypnotist, a body worker, a collaborator, a friend, and a contact improviser. In her free time she loves to study world mysticisms and magical traditions. Something she is in a process of dissolving is her own robotic, antiquated habituations, like saying “Good!” immediately when someone asks her how she is doing, which might be a lie. She is more curious now about entering the bizarre gap of truth, and being with whatever truths are there. Every dance we wish to have already lives within us, and the joy of us coming together is when our systems soften enough to set these dances free.
