About this Event
Japantown – The Internment Years and AfterWas Japantown a ghost town during World War II? What happened after the Japanese Americans returned to the Santa Clara Valley? Join us for an engaging presentation with history detective Curt Fukuda as he explores the rise, decline, and rebirth of San Jose Japantown—one of only three remaining Japantowns in the United States. Through powerful stories, rare photos, and historic video footage, Curt will shed light on the community’s transformation following Executive Order 9066 and the lasting impact of internment on the neighborhood.
He’ll be joined by Crystal Rast, a longtime community member and cultural event organizer, who will speak about Japantown today and its hopeful future as a vibrant, multicultural hub.
