This concert was planned for April of 2020, before it disappeared in the wake of the pandemic.
As life gradually began to return to normal, the CCA again committed to presenting the compositions of Steve Peisch, which include a piano trio, vocal trios, songs, and solo pieces for the piano. While Peisch has written in a variety of styles—a suite of his more abstract works was recently presented in Jordan Hall in Boston –all of the music on this program is accessible to a broad audience ready to experience a wide range of emotions through music. Most of the vocal music is based on poems by Langston Hughes and includes settings of four short poems by Charles Simic, the Pulitzer Prize winning poet from New Hampshire. The song texts express a variety of emotional states—both positive and negative –that are reflected and amplified by the music. The performers include David Pihl, piano; Maria Ferrante, soprano; Suzanne Buell, alto; and Monica Tessitore, piano. The program will conclude with a performance of “Great New Day,” a song written in a Gospel style, and performed by Suzanne Buell. This song celebrates the success of the liberation movement in South Africa, and it is also relevant to our own country’s efforts to provide equal rights for all of its people.
FOR YOUR SAFETY: ALL patrons ages 5+ must provide proof of Covid vaccination, ALL patrons 18+ must also show proof of booster. ALL patrons must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth.
This program is supported in part by a grants from the Chelmsford and Harvard councila, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
