Movement Academy OT301 invites: Maria MavridouThis class is for everyone who is curious to play and experiment with the floor as a partner. We work with simple actions: rolling, pushing, reaching, falling, sliding, throwing, crawling, hands-on tasks with partners and directions that engage the imagination. Movement sequences from the broad palette of contemporary dance practices are offered as puzzles to play with and expand the range of possibilities for movement. My interest is in the transition, the ability to change levels with ease. I like to invite the participants in a space of research, creativity and play, sharing the curiosity and inspiration to dance. The ground can be a place of unconditional support. Letting go of the habitual effort to hold oneself upright, yielding and connecting might be all it takes for this dance to begin.
About teacher:
Maria Mavridou, dancer/performer/creator/teacher. Graduated from the State School of Dance in Athens and the SNDO - School for New Dance Development, in Amsterdam. Did post-graduate studies at the Dance Space Center and the Movement Research in New York with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. Studied extensively with Katerina Bakatsaki and Frank van de Ven (Body Weather) and real-time composition with Katie Duck and affiliated artists.
She works internationally in collaboration with dancers, performers, musicians, actors, visual artists in a wide and diverse range of cross disciplinary projects. Teaches movement research and improvisation. What moves her is curiosity and love for the multiplicities of bodies, minds and imaginations.
