Tarun Nayar, also known as Modern Biology, has captivated audiences worldwide with his innovative approach to music. Originally trained as a biologist, Tarun has seamlessly blended his scientific background with his musical talents to create an ambient project that is both immediate and deeply contextual. Using plant bioelectricity, latent electromagnetic radiation, and the earth’s resonant hum, Tarun crafts performances that are organismic, uplifting, and rooted in the present moment.
Trained in Indian classical music, Tarun uses the system of Indian raga to inform his musical choices, creating a sound that is both timeless and contemporary. His work has garnered over 100 million video views and more than a million followers online. Tarun has been featured in The Guardian, LA Times, BBC, Genius, Vice, The Verge, and DJ Mag, among others. His recent albums have received editorial support on Spotify’s Music for Plants, Deep Listening, and Lava Lamp playlists. Recent live performances include Art Basel (Miami), MOCA (Los Angeles), New York Botanical Garden, and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
