About this Event
Learn the foundation skills of crotcheting while making granny squares and other art pieces. With assisted instruction, students will learn hold to hold your hook and yarn, create slip knots, and refine essential stitches, such as the chain, single, and double stitch. This class will help develop these new crafty skills through mindful experience and a relaxed, cozy environment.
About the Instructor:
Jefferson W. D. Streeter was born in Warrenton, Virginia, in 1992. He spent his early years in Rochester, New York, where he first learned to crochet from his grandmother, Maddalena Bianchini, a skill that would become a lifelong passion. His love for crochet followed him to Florida, where he has spent most of his adult life.
Without the presence of cold winters, Jefferson began reimagining how his work could exist beyond seasonal wear. This shift led him to explore large-scale crochet pieces, transforming traditional fiber art into bold, display-worthy creations. Over time, he expanded his practice to include painted crochet works, incorporating three-dimensional design elements that push the boundaries of the craft.
His work blends texture, color, and form in ways that challenge expectations of what crochet can be. Today, Jefferson continues to innovate within the medium while sharing his passion for fiber art throughout the Jacksonville community, one stitch at a time.
Studio Practice is a monthly series of hands-on, practical art classes where students of all levels learn to create in varying media with the instruction of a local artist. Open to adults and teens in the company of an adult.
