Find out more by visiting followthetomato.org"Our Mobile Farmers Market trucks bring fresh, local, sustainably-grown produce to food insecure neighborhoods throughout Yolo County. According to a 2023 report by the Yolo Food Bank, nearly one in three Yolo County residents face food insecurity. Our farmers market on wheels addresses that concern, making fresh fruits and vegetables affordable and convenient. The Mobile Farmers Market provides an innovative marketplace for small and beginning farms and connects consumers with the people who grow their food. By growing crops that are culturally relevant to our diverse communities, paying farmers a fair price, and fostering community involvement, we promote a healthier food system that is equitable and resilient.
The MFM is helping to reduce both financial and physical barriers to food access. To better serve low-income customers, we accept SNAP/EBT (food stamps) and offer a 50% discount through Market Match. This program incentivizes these customers to use their EBT dollars at local farmers markets.
The Mobile Farmers Market serves ethnically diverse, low-income neighborhoods in Yolo County identified as food insecure by the USDA.
Promotional materials are translated into Russian, Farsi and Spanish to represent the cultural diversity of our customer base.
60% of the produce is grown within 25 miles on small farms, and 100% is grown within 100 miles.
We work with local farmers to grow culturally relevant foods that our diverse customer base has a hard time finding in a traditional grocery store."
