MSP Film Society presents MN Made @ The Main, a screening series that celebrates films by Minnesota filmmakers. Join us for the kick off of the new season with encore screenings of two popular films from MSPIFF45: BARNI & RUUNTA.
The screenings will be preceded by a party in The Film Strip and followed by a conversation with Director Mohammed Sheikh (BARNI) and Director Abdilatif Hassen (RUUNTA).
RUUNTA
A young Somali man is torn between who he is expected to be, and who he knows he is, in a city that knocks him down and lifts him up.
BARNI
Barni, a nine-year-old girl, vanishes after a wedding in her rural village in Somalia. With her friends Hirsi and Geedi, Barni’s sister Amina takes a brave journey into the city, stopping at nothing to find her. With nuanced, naturalistic performances and stunning visuals, BARNI is a tale of persistence and self-discovery against all odds.
