MMS will host a necessities drive for neighbors served by the Bream Memorial Church Shower and Healthcare Program on January 25-27.
Montessori education nurtures a “service to others” culture, and this wonderful project is the brainchild of Arlo Bastress, an Upper Elementary II student:
"When I was at Target with my family before winter break, I heard this woman say to their kid that they had nothing for the holiday. This made me want to give back to my community. I think that if you have more than somebody else, you should share what you have and help them. Helping them can bring you happiness and bring others happiness. So, one way we could help others is to bring in stuff like toothbrushes, deodorant and maybe write a card or letter to them, and if you have any canned food that would be great. They also need things like new socks and underwear. Thank you.”
The MMS Homeless Community Necessities Drive, organized by our School Life Committee, will benefit the Bream’s Shower Program, Food Pantry and Clothing Closet, which is available to the city’s homeless and less fortunate. This program was started in 2021 as simply a shower program but it has grown into so much more.
