Looking to try something new? Join the Fun, Fitness, and Friendship offered by Scottish Country Dance (SCD)! SCD is the social and ballroom dance of Scotland that is danced ALL OVER THE WORLD! It is historical (dates back to 17th C) , it is contemporary (new dances written every day), it is an ancestor to some US dance forms like Contra and Square Dancing, it is international*, it is evolving, AND It is taking storm on US campuses! Nope, you don't need to be Scottish!

The Milwaukee Scottish Country Dancers (MkeSCD) with the UWM Celtic Studies program is offering a SOCIAL DANCE CLASS near the UWM Campus (in the gym of the Zao Church, across the street from the Union) on Thursday evenings 7-8:30PM. The 2024 Spring/Summer session 4/4 thru 8/29 (with no class 5/16, 7/4, 7/25, 8/1). The focus of this class will be to dance and learn with the energy and pacing appropriate to young adults – the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) considers youth those 35 and under** -- still, adults of all ages are most certainly welcome! We typically dance in multiple groups of 6-8 people to lively fiddle, accordion, pipe, and piano music recorded by world class musicians, but on occasion we even have live music!
This class has the advantage of being on the UWM campus as well as on a bus line! Parking is available on the street, in the Union parking lot, or at the Zelazo Center parking lot. Class costs are solely for the facility rental and will be pay-what-you-can at each class (suggested $3-5 cash). Please share this flyer with everyone you know who might be interested!

*RSCDS lists 360 groups (and I'm sure there are countless unlisted groups) including these countries: Argentina, Austrailia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United States, and of course the UK [England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales].
** Although the class is for adults, teens ages 14-17 are welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Families indeed enjoy dancing together!
