About this Event

The Workshop:

This one-day workshop will involve looking at how writers can draw from their own personal experiences or researching the real lives/experiences of others, to create a powerful and engaging piece of creative work, in the genre and writing area of their choice.
Looking at the wide variety of real events and experiences which have inspired writers to create successful, engaging works of fact and fiction. What makes and enables the basis of a ‘real’ event within a piece of literary work, to effectively emerge as an appealing subject and thematic catalyst for change, to both readers and audiences?
Considering how writers can effectively find the balance of keeping the framework of the story in line with the truth of the event, combining areas of education and entertainment to help our understanding and connections with both the historical and contemporary world. Whilst also creating engaging ‘living’ and ‘breathing’ characters, who can effectively bring the story to life.

Tina Jay:

Tina Jay is an award winning playwright, having won both the International Playscript Competition (judged by Sir Alan Ayckbourn), and the Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing. Her plays have been performed across London, with her most recent play 'Syndrome' performed for a two week run at Tristan Bates Theatre in Covent Garden, receiving 5* reviews and an Offie nomination for 'Best New Play'. A collection of her short stories was also recently performed at The Quad in Derby by actor/director Jack Brett Anderson.

Tina has taught writing courses and workshops at numerous colleges/universities/venues across the East Midlands, and currently teaches Creative Writing Short Courses at Nottingham Trent University. Tina also has an MA (Distinction) in TV Scriptwriting.
