About this Event
Join us for a conversation with Eboney Hearn, Executive Director of MIT’s programs for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
Eboney Hearn is the Executive Director of MIT’s Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES) and will share her personal and professional experiences on a topic that’s making waves in the United States.
The event will also include a short introduction by Gerard Segú on the Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC) organized every summer by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. The discussions will be followed by a short networking event.
If you have a child or teenager who’s curious about STEM summer programs, they’re welcome to join!

About Eboney Hearn and the MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science
Eboney Hearn is the Executive Director of MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES), where she leads strategic outreach engaging over 450 aspiring STEM students annually. With two decades of experience championing access for students from underserved backgrounds, she has mentored more than 4,000 young scientists and engineers. Her dedication to expanding educational access was recognized with the 2022 Outstanding Contributor MIT Excellence Award.
Hearn holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT and an Ed.M. from Harvard University. Her diverse career includes roles as an IBM manufacturing engineer - where she co-patented a groundbreaking photolithography process - and a Boston public school math teacher. Prior to leading MITES, she served as Assistant Dean for Graduate Education at MIT and as Program Director for Diversity Initiatives at the Broad Institute.

About the Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC)
The international program is looking for young students from around the world who are passionate for science and Technology with the aim of stimulating their talent and promoting their vocation for scientific and technological research. During two weeks in July, around 150 young students of 10th to 12th High School grade will gather in Barcelona and have the opportunity to work on the science and technology challenges proposed by scientists at top-ranked research centers, universities and hospitals.
