About this Event

The land-grant university system was founded on stolen Indigenous land, and climate change is its continued legacy. The nonprofit climate newsroom Grist recently published a major investigation on state trust lands that illustrates how 14 public universities continue to profit off of Indigenous resources, receiving billions of dollars in revenue through fossil fuel exploration, mining, timber harvesting, and other extractive industries.

Join award-winning Kiowa journalist and Grist Editor at Large Tristan Ahtone for a lecture and panel conversation featuring Nick Estes (Assistant Professor in American Indian Studies, University of Minnesota), Peter Lengkeek (Chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe), and An Garagiola (Ojibwe graduate student, co-author on Misplaced Trust, and researcher, TRUTH Project) exploring how stolen wealth continues to transform public institutions like The University of Minnesota.
