Misa Criolla. Guest Director Jennifer Michalik

Misa Criolla was one of the first Masses in the vernacular to be composed after the Second Vatican Council in 1963. The Washington Post wrote that the Misa Criolla is "widely regarded as a stunning artistic achievement". This short “light and lively” Mass has been performed and recorded many times, notably with tenor soloists Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, and features dance (yes, dance!) idioms from various South American regions. We are very grateful that Jonathan Encarnacion will be our Diction Coach for this workshop. This is the introduction to the main music selection for our March 19 concert at the Doubletree.

Guest Director - Jennifer Michalik

An alumna of Michigan State and Northwestern Universities, and previously a member of the music faculty of Marywood University, Jennifer Nolan Michalik joined the faculty of Alvernia University in 1992, and serves as Assistant Professor, Artist in Residence and Director of Vocal Music. In addition to Fellowships with the Opera Festival of the South and Aspen Music Festival, she has been a principal/soloist on the theatrical stage and in concert throughout the region, singing opera, musical theatre, oratorio and recitals. She sang numerous times in the Carnegie Hall Professional Choral Workshops under the direction of Charles Dutoit, Andre Previn, James Conlon, Helmut Rilling, and Sir Neville Marriner, as well as singing under the baton of John Rutter, Bob Chilcott and Ola Gjeilo. She is a member and soloist of the Lancaster-based Wheatland Chorale and is an adjudicator of vocal and choral competitions. Jennifer has also worked throughout eastern Pennsylvania as a Board-Certified Music Therapist.
