MIRIAM JONES BIO
Miriam Jones returns to Leeds on Sunday 10th July 2022 to play Acoustic Nights @ The Barn in Meanwood. Based in Vancouver, Canada these are her first shows on UK shores since January 2020 to celebrate the launch of her brand new, electric guitar-driven album "Reach For The Morning". For those who recall, Miriam formerly played a well received sold out solo gig at Chapel A House Concerts in Leeds in 2015.
Jones's new album "Reach For The Morning" (released June 17th 2022) available now at: https://miriamjones.bandcamp.com/album/reach-for-the-morning) is the first taste of new music since Miriam’s well received 2015 album "Between Green and Gone" (https://miriamjones.bandcamp.com/album/between-green-and-gone) produced by Simon Edwards. The album brought her to the attention of the national media and gained support from BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris show, BBC Scotland as well as BBC London’s Robert Elms, whilst also being featured in The Independent On Sunday, to name a few. The British Columbia native Miriam Jones supported Roddy Frame on his UK tour to promote "Between Green and Gone". Greenbelt Festival reviewed the album as: "These ten, four-minute tales are delivered with a grit and warmth that puts Jones firmly in the Bonnie Raitt and Joan Osborne class of tough but soulful exponents of North American roots music."
Miriam has recorded 8 album releases in total (as listed below) and attracted some top producers down the years. Namely Simon Edwards producer of Fairground Attraction, Billy Bragg, David Gray; and Matt Hay who has worked with The Who, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue. Also the Grammy Award-winning Nashville producer Charlie Peacock who amongst many top achievements produced two of The Civil Wars' albums that reached No. 1 on the US Billboard charts. These accolades helped Miriam and The Red Sea band attract a slot second on the bill at Cornbury Festival, headlined by The Faces and Ray Davies and a booking at Maverick Americana Music Festival with Lisa Mills and Chastity Brown.
A number of Miriam Jones' songs have been included on the Motion Pictures: "Abel's Field", "Murder on the 13th Floor", "Within" and most notably the "Magic Beyond Words, the JK Rowling Story" that was winner of a Canadian Screen Award for Best TV Movie. On these soundtracks Miriam teamed up with the successful contemporary composer, Jeff Toyne. Toyne has had numerous top film scores include 9/11 starring Charlie Sheen; and Life on the Line starring John Travolta and Sharon Stone, as well as many multiple series for Direct TV including the very popular "Rogue". Miriam's song ‘Squander’ from her debut album ‘Sign & Semblance’ was the first to obtain television exposure on the Canadian hit TV series ‘Falcon Beach’. More details listed below.
"Reach For The Morning", features twelve songs of hope, self-revelation and faith, was very much the product of lockdown strictures and was recorded in Miriam’s pop-up home basement studio over the course of 2020 and 2021 with Jones producing and playing all of the instruments bar a handful of percussion overdubs. "Reach For The Morning" contains seven brand new self-written tunes plus three covers (a startling reframing of Dylan’s “Lord Protect My Child”, Purcell’s iconic “When I Am Laid In Earth” and Lionel Bart’s “Who Will Buy?”).
Miriam elaborates on the album's motivation: "Maybe it was the lockdowns, the oppressive forces of all kinds bearing down, or maybe it was simply within the natural flow of where I was at in myself, but I sure was hell bent on making this thing. It's been a huge accomplishment personally to me, like slaying a Giant with a sling and 5 smooth stones"
Have a listen to "Room in my House" from the new album "Reach For The Morning" and you'll love it:

Then come down to the Acoustic Nights @ The Barn on Sunday 10th July 7pm and you'll be in for a treat!
