"Everything changed when Bowie died – Trump, Brexit, economic down-turn, social unrest, Covid, China flexing its muscles, Putin flexing his. Just before Lockdown 2020, I had started writing some songs with the intension of creating an uplifting rock album, which somehow reflected on these events in some way - not with a direct reference, but more obliquely. ‘The Invisible Blitz’ isn’t a protest or resistance album, but more of an uplifting conceptual Zeitgeist album with the human condition at the heart of it.
As human beings, we all sense the turmoil of these events, and although there may not be any tangible danger, it’s almost as if we’re under siege of this ‘Invisible Blitz’. Even if we’re not at war, it’s as if we are at war with ourselves, or constantly shadowboxing with an indefinable threat. The people and the places in these songs are all in some way touched by this concept of ‘The Invisible Blitz’; the photographer in a lockdown landscape (The Lonely Photographer), the neglected playground (Halcyon Days), the artist dancing in the face of adversity (Dancing on the Rubble of the City) representing the hope in all of us." MM
Third album release from Netherlands born, Bristol based artist Mireille Mathlener, who has a growing reputation for striking songs with a real captivating, narrative quality and has been compared to the likes of Neil Young and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders)
Brilliant artist... classic track that harks at
80's nostalgia.. think the pretenders with
modern lyricism... a wonderful, wonderful
track.“ (Halcyon Days)

“Anna Young has the courage to rely on little more than her voice and an acoustic guitar. Her vocal delivery made me think of Beth Orton. There will always be a place in the musical landscape for artists like Anna Young. Intimate. Inspired.”
