About this Event

SONIC COLLIDERS CONCERT SERIES

Toronto’s award winning group Minor Empire is planning a busy year of new releases and unique collaborative concert performances under the banner Sonic Colliders. The series will see the band performing with world renowned virtuosos like Avi Bortnik and Eivind Aarset as they explore and expand on the full spectrum of their vaunted outer-national Anatolian inspired soundscapes.

Described as ‘Trippy, dreamy, cinematic and stylishly hip', Minor Empire principles Ozgu Ozman and Ozan Boz’s music takes listeners on a voyage of the imagination. It’s a unique sound and style that largely defies categorization and stereotypes, but their heady mix of middle eastern roots, rock, jazz and lush contemporary sonic ambience has attracted fans far and wide. American critic Milo Miles (NPR, Rolling Stone, NY Times) deemed their Uprooted album the “Best Release of 2018" and their online videos have racked up millions of views around the world.

One of the most innovative guitar players of our time, Norway's Eivind Aarset has a truly singular voice on the instrument. He’s a voracious collaborator and has worked on dozens of albums with many other groundbreaking musicians including Jon Hassell, Nils Petter Molvaer, Bill Laswell and Dhafer Youssef. He’s also put out several releases under his own name and his debut as a bandleader was described by the New York Times as "One of the best post-Miles electric jazz albums". Eivind is sure to push the band’s already expansive sonic horizons even further at these once in a lifetime shows.
