About this Event
This is a 45 minute workshop, where you will learn the basics of lino cutting and printing.
Each participant will be given a 4" x 4" lino block to create a design and begin cutting as Silka guides you through! You will walk away with a finished print, as well as your newly cut block, which you can take home to ink up and use again.
This is the perfect workshop to introduce yourself to a new print process, and set you on course with the basic skills to make your own prints in the future.
PLEASE NOTE - This workshop will take place inside the Artists' Book and Print Fair as part of Printed Bound 2023, so the setting may be noisy and therefore unsuitable for anyone with sensory sensitivity.
Entry to the market is included in your workshop ticket - just show your email confirmation to the staff on the door when you arrive.
Sessions will run from 13:30 - 14:15 and 14:30 - 15:15
Suitable for ages 14+. Sharp tools will be used for this workshop, and a fair amount of dexterity is needed.
All materials are included in your ticket.
This workshop is part of a series of workshops and events taking place as part of Printed Bound 2023 around the site of Sunny Bank Mills. Click our profile to see the 'Printed Bound 2023' collection on Eventbrite.
About your tutor
Silka Guy is a member of Leeds Print Workshop has assisted on a variety of courses, teaching printmaking techniques in schools around Leeds, as well as producing her own creative work.
Silka mainly works with screen print and linocut, and has also been experimenting with the fast and spontaneous process of monoprinting. Looking back at her work over the last few years, she can see certain themes forming – specifically in illustrating and visualising contradictory terms and behaviours; connection/disconnection, chaos/order, restriction/expansion.
Silka is also part of Arts and Crafts North (@artsandcraftsnorth) - a group of creatives facilitating art and craft based workshops in Leeds.
