Beethoven to Broadway
The San Diego Chamber Music Society's popular hour-long concert program: "From Beethoven to Broadway, music for Horn and Piano", featuring selections from famous composers of the past; Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, Cherubini and 20th century American composers like Burt Bacharach, Mitch Leigh, Stephen Schwartz, Jerome Kern and Henry Mancini. This is a light-hearted look at some of our most requested pieces from over 25 years of horn-piano concerts; there is something here for everyone to enjoy. Since 2010 they have performed this program over 75 times at libraries and senior/community centers from San Diego to San Francisco and Seattle.
Since 2018 they have performed at the public libraries in Corona, Borrego Springs, Coronado, Temecula, Julian, Lakeside, Scripps Ranch, La Mesa, Rancho San Diego, Escondido, Point Loma, Vista and Alpine and the retirement communities Wesley Palms, Seacrest Village, Mt Miguel Covenant Village, Chateau La Jolla, Casa de las Campanas, Rossmoor Walnut Creek, The Glen at Scripps Ranch, Carlsbad by the Sea, La Vida Del Mar, White Sands of La Jolla and Casa de Manana.
The performers are Bruce Dorcy- horn and Beverly Reese Dorcy- piano. As usual, there will be an interesting dialogue about the pieces and the composers and an amusing anecdote or two. New this year is music from Phantom of the Opera and Wicked.
Beverly Reese Dorcy—piano/percussion, was formerly principal percussionist with the Fresno Philharmonic, Tacoma Opera, Bellevue Philharmonic, San Francisco Women's Philharmonic, Monterey Opera, Monterey Pops Orchestra, Golden Gate Opera and Classical Philharmonic.
