🎭 Come learn how actors bring a story to life—and then step onstage and do it yourself!

In this fun, hands-on two-hour Mini Acting Workshop, young actors will explore the basics of acting through theater games, improvisation, character exercises, movement, and plenty of opportunities to get up and ACT.

And we have a special project!

🎄 Students will get to act out a scene from an original children’s Christmas play currently being written by Mrs. Beasley!

Rather than simply talking about acting, we’ll learn some of the tools actors use—and immediately put them into practice as we explore characters, rehearse a scene, and bring a Christmas story to life together.

🎭 What Will We Learn?

We’ll explore the Actor’s Toolbox and discover how actors use:

Voice — projection, volume, pacing, tone and expression

Body — posture, gestures, movement, facial expressions and how to position yourself onstage so the audience can see you

Imagination — stepping into a character and responding as that character would

Character Development — discovering who your character is instead of simply memorizing lines

Stage Skills — basic stage directions, movement, positioning and interacting naturally with other actors

Improvisation — thinking on your feet, reacting to other actors and learning to stay in character

We’ll also introduce GOTE: Goal, Other, Tactics and Expectation, a simple acting tool that helps young performers dig deeper into a scene:

Goal: What does my character want?

Other: Who am I trying to get it from?

Tactics: What am I doing to get what I want?

Expectation: What do I think is going to happen?

Then we’ll take what we’ve learned and use it!

🎄 From Workshop to Christmas Play

Students will be cast in roles from a scene in Mrs. Beasley’s original children’s Christmas play and work together to bring the scene to life.

We’ll look beyond simply “saying the lines” and experiment with questions like:

What does my character want? How should I move? Where should I look? How can I use my voice? What is happening between the characters? How do we make this scene believable—and fun for an audience to watch?

By the end of the workshop, students will have experienced the process of taking a scene from the page to the stage.

No previous acting experience is necessary!

Whether your child already loves performing, enjoys roleplaying and storytelling, or is simply curious about theater, the emphasis will be on creativity, participation, learning, confidence and having fun together.
