About this Event
Youthcentrik is pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming Youth Mental Health Conference, an initiative designed to bring together local nonprofits, youth leaders, educators and community members to engage in meaningful conversations about mental health and community wellbeing.
At Youthcentrik, our mission is to support and uplift young people in our community through mentorship, leadership development sports and culturally grounded programming. We believe that mental health is a critical part of building strong and resilient communities and that it requires collaboration across organizations, cultures and lived experiences.
This conference will serve as a space for:
• Open conversations about mental health and wellness
• Learning from experienced community leaders and advocates
• Strengthening partnerships across local organizations
• Sharing resources that support youth and families
• Building a stronger and more connected community
We are especially honoured to welcome Ahmed “Knowmadic” Ali as our featured guest speaker.
Ahmed Ali is an award-winning spoken word poet, educator, and human rights advocate based in Edmonton, Alberta. As Poet Laureate from 2017 to 2019, he became the first person of African descent to hold this position.
A Somali-Canadian refugee, Ali's journey from Mogadishu to Canada shapes his artistic voice and commitment to justice. In 2011, he was named Canadian Spoken Word Champion, and in 2018, he received the Human Rights Champion Award for amplifying marginalized voices through poetry.
Ali has engaged over 3,000 students across Canada, the US, UK, and Sudan through poetry residencies. His "knowmadic" teaching philosophy validates each student's perspective, building confidence, empathy, and critical thinking. As co-founder of Breath In Poetry, he champions equitable representation and previously chaired the Edmonton Arts Council Equity Committee.
