Are you new to yoga or looking for a gentle, supportive introduction to this transformative practice? Join us at Fumo Family Library for "Mindful Yoga Basics" to experience a comprehensive introduction to yoga – postures, breath, and relaxation tools – in a warm and welcoming environment.
In this weekly class, you will explore:
-adaptations of yoga postures – seated in a chair and standing – to increase physical strength and flexibility
-proper use of yoga props to empower you to safely explore a your full range of mobility
-mindful breath practices to calm and focus the mind
-relaxation practices to reduce stress and
-a basic understanding of the benefits of yoga and the system of philosophy that supports the practice
Gently paced and compassionately led, this weekly class offers step-by-step instruction and time for questions, reflection and feedback. About Kate:
Kate Howell has been teaching yoga in the Philadelphia area for 14 years. Her approach is based in the teachings of the KYM (Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram) as received through the Optimal State Yoga Therapy School and Polyvagal Theory as developed by Dr. Stephen Porges.
Kate’s teaching is inspired by the integration of ritual, breath, and movement, focused on nervous system regulation, and emphasizes conscious breathing and the mind-body connection.
Kate is recognized by the Yoga Alliance as an Experience Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT) and is currently working towards her Certification with the International Alliance of Yoga Therapy (C-IAYT) at Optimal State Yoga Therapy School.
Kate offers Yoga Therapy at Jefferson Methodist Hospital for the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit and Headache Unit and the Jefferson Cancer Support Center in both Philadelphia and Cherry Hill. She is the Yoga Coordinator and Wholebeing Guide for Prasada Wholebeing@Work and the founder of Sweet Fire Yoga Arts and Healing LLC, through which she provides private Yoga Therapy Sessions (remote and in home).
Kate lives in Glassboro, NJ with her husband, two children, and dog.
