Unable to quiet my mind, meditation has always been elusive. My year long journey of folding one thousand origami cranes was the closest I’ve ever come to meditation. Turning flat stacks of paper into a lively pile of cranes for me became hope, movement, whimsy, and mindfulness. I find calm and purpose in folding and stringing paper cranes, and I have found that the end result is a joyful and contemplative appeal.
This weekly four-part workshop series is meant to foster a practice and awareness of mindfulness, both individually and together as a small group. It will consist of guided discussion and hands on creativity. I will teach participants to fold origami cranes and turn them into an artistic crane branch. I aim to facilitate conversation around mindful creativity, our relationship to art, and connections with nature.
