Tonight’s Mindful Movie: Natural Hair The Movie
“Hear the bold stories of women of color, overcoming discrimination, suppression, and western standards of beauty in hair styling.”
— Team Grind
Natural Hair The Movie explores the past, present and future of natural hair worn by women of color in America. Director Reginald Titus Jr. and executive producer Ashanti Titus invite viewers to experience the wonderful entanglement of hair as a symbol in education, social status, politics, history and self -acceptance. From the sacred status hair held in Africa through the trauma of slavery; to the fight for civil rights and the battle for mainstream acceptance today, this movie attempts to make sense of natural hair’s roots through interviews of struggle and triumph. .
