Leave your worries at the door and create beautiful patterns on the surface of water.
About this Event

In this mesmerizing class, you will learn the basics of suminagashi paper marbling.

Suminagashi, translated as “floating ink, ” is an ancient Japanese art form where ink is applied to the surface of water, manipulated to create beautiful patterns, and then transferred to a sheet of paper. From the first time your brush touches the water, you'll be entranced.

During this workshop, your instructor Leah McKnight will help you to create at least four one-of-a-kind suminagashi art pieces. First, we’ll go over a number of different techniques you can use to create your marbled designs, and then you’ll be free to sink into the relaxing flow of marbling.

In this workshop, you will

  • learn about the history of suminagashi marbling,
  • understand the different supplies and techniques you can use to manipulate your designs,
  • practice letting go of expectations and relaxing into the process,
  • take home a pile of marbled papers to frame or craft with,
  • see examples of crafts you can create with your marbled paper,
  • learn in an intimate environment with one-on-one support as needed, and
  • leave with a basic understanding of this craft to continue your meditation and art at home or at the studio!

Planning for a group? We can schedule a private workshop for 4 or more people! Be in touch!

Fine print: No kids (high schoolers welcome). One spot is for one person. We can make changes to your reservation up to one week before your workshop date.
