About this Event
In honor of Women's History Month, please join us in exploring the gender gap in the arts with esteemed panelists, Drew Oberjuerge, Rachael Dzikonski, Nicole Green Hodges, Barbara Simpson Lara & Lana Negrete (in a pre-recorded message/response.) The panel will be moderated by Mindy Griffith.
Some Facts:
11% of all acquisitions at 25 prominent U.S. museums over the past decade were of work by women artists.
Out of 3,050 galleries in the Artsy database, 48% represent 25% or fewer women artists; 10% represent no women artists at all; only 8% represent more women than men.
The panelists will reflect on the subject through specific questions such as:
Have the panelists personally experienced gender bias?
Are gender biases present in art education and academia?
How has the gender gap in the arts evolved over time?
How can institutions and organizations better support the advancement of women artists?
What role do art institutions play in either reinforcing or challenging gender gap disparities?
How can art communities foster a more inclusive environment for women artists to thrive and network?
What are the challenges women artists face in accessing professional development opportunities?
Do government leaders have a responsibility to prioritize arts funding to marginalized groups?
These are just a few of the questions and challenges that will be addressed during this two hour discussion. Refreshments will be provided by Chef Kim of "It's Bliss Catering."
We look forward to your participation. Space is limited, so please register early.
