Cheraw, the traditional Bamboo Dance of Mizoram, is a dynamic interplay of rhythm, precision, and coordination. Using pairs of bamboo staves clapped in measured patterns, dancers move in and out of shifting spaces with agility and grace, reflecting the cultural spirit and community harmony of the Mizo people.
This three-day workshop offers an introduction to the fundamentals of Cheraw, including basic steps, rhythm patterns, and coordination techniques. Through a structured and progressive approach, participants will engage with both traditional vocabulary and contemporary adaptations of the form in a collaborative learning environment.
The workshop concludes in a lively group choreography set to a popular Bollywood track, blending the essence of Cheraw with a modern musical context.
