Milestone Hike at Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve- Stafford County, VA
About this Event
Join us as we celebrate Crow's Nest Natural Area Preserve! Added to the Old-Growth Forest Network in 2017, we will honor this incredible forest with a three-mile, naturalist guided hike through a portion of the Preserve.
Crow's Nest is a beautiful place considered highly significant from numerous standpoints. Topography is varied, with the high narrow ridgeline rising 200 feet above the Potomac and the Accokeek Creeks. The peninsula is dissected by a series of ravines.
The Preserve supports 2,200 acres of mature hardwood forest including two forest types that are recognized as globally rare by DCR's Natural Heritage Program: Coastal Plain Dry Calcareous Forest, as well as a Fresh Tidal Hardwood Swamp.
Our hike will be about 3 miles, and traverse some moderate terrain. Sturdy shoes and a full water bottle are recommended. Snacks provided at the starting point.
