In honor of the centennial birthdays of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, join us for an immersive evening exploring the sound, spirit, and revolutionary impact of two of the most influential artists in modern music history.
Presented as part of Tim Scott’s 2026 Artist Residency with the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, Miles & Coltrane 100 blends live jazz performance, archival film footage, storytelling, cultural analysis, and community dialogue into a one-night-only multimedia experience.
Through live music and guided conversation, audiences will journey through:
- the evolution of jazz and Black American music
- the individual artistic paths of Miles Davis and John Coltrane
- their groundbreaking collaborations
- and the lasting influence their work continues to have on music, culture, and artistic expression today
The evening will feature:

Following the presentation, guests are invited to continue the celebration next door at Eighty Eights for a special edition of Bop Theory, featuring The Blackhawk Quintet performing the music and spirit of Miles Davis and John Coltrane live in community.
