Formed in Minneapolis, Minn. in 2018, Steam Machine brought to the national stage a Midwest-influenced string band aesthetic that didn’t draw such hard lines between old-time and bluegrass. Smooth, powerful fiddling, driving three finger banjo, and front-of-the-beat rhythm combine to create a suspiciously entertaining sound. Members are AJ Srubras, Rina Rossi, and Reed Stutz. The visitor center near Asheville is a one-stop shop for all things Blue Ridge Parkway. Get a map, talk to a ranger, pick up some merchandise, learn about other area offerings, and explore parkway-themed exhibits. Hiking includes a short loop with access to the Mountains-to-Sea trail. For anyone looking to start their parkway trip from Asheville, the visitor center is a must-see. Milepost Music concerts are held the fourth Sunday of each month, June through September.
The Blue Ridge Music Center’s Milepost Music brings free concerts by local and regional artists to locations along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. No tickets are needed. Bring a chair and a picnic lunch. No alcohol permitted on site.
Milepost Music at Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center is sponsored by Come Hear North Carolina.
