About this Event

Mile High Radio Club of Idyllwild welcomes the public to an Introduction to Emergency Radio Communications for you, the average citizen. Discussion includes: Emergency Communication in Idyllwild, how does it work? What are the other means available during emergencies? Your internet and cell connections are lost, what then? Are you an RV-er who enjoys remote camping out of cell phone range - learn about OSCAR (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio).

The club will also discuss the ease and simplicity of studying for and obtaining an amateur radio (HAM) license. Presentation includes live demonstration of HAM radio, and EchoLink (computer-based HAM communications).

Presented by MHRC members: Tom Pierce - K8EBR (previously with NASA, JPL, Mars Laboratory, and more), Tom Unwin - WA6SSS (WNKI emergency radio station specialist & RV boondocker), Bill Tell - KD6KTV (Electrical cable engineer, President MHRC), Roland Gaebert - KE6NPN (Previously Communications Director of SURCOM, MHRC Board member)
