About Mike Baggetta:
Lauded by press and peers alike, Mike Baggetta has become known, through his seemingly constant touring over the last several years and surprising collaborations, for his boundless commitment to his complete artistic vision through guitar, voice and electronics.
This latest tour, following a west coast leg with his new band Casa Sueño with John Herndon and Mike Watt, focuses entirely on his solo songs for guitar, voice and electronics, exploring this new music up close and at length for its debut recording.
In addition to leading the band mssv, with drummer Stephen Hodges & bassist Mike Watt, through several full length releases, national tours, a few international shows, and some limited releases with special guests Nels Cline, Petra Haden and J Mascis, Baggetta has also worked with Jim Keltner, David Torn, Psychic Temple, John Herndon, Joseph C. Philips’ Numinous, Imani Uzuri, Jeff Coffin, Henry Kaiser, Rev. Fred Lane, Viktor Krauss and Ruth Brown among many others. He can be heard on the BIG EGO, Joyful Noise, ECM, New Amsterdam and Fresh Sound record labels.
“Mike Baggetta is a player of immense subtlety across all dimensions, working with an impressive palette of tones … distilling Robert Fripp’s loopscapes with hints of John Fahey.”
-The Wire, UK
“...A terrific player, capable of weirdly elegant fretwork, shivery Tom Verlaine-esque tones, freeform freakouts and crunchy fuzz, shifting from one zone to another with a naturalness and ease.”
-Aquarium Drunkard
About Eli Winter:
Eli Winter is a composer, self-taught guitarist, essayist, and Houston native. His music synthesizes aspects of folk, rock, jazz, and devotional music, maintaining a waggish disregard for genre constraints emblematic of Chicago, his adopted hometown. His new album, A Trick of the Light, is an elegantly crafted and vibrant collection that finds the bandleader at the height of his powers: the dazzlingly intense arrangement of Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell’s “Arabian Nightingale” that opens the album, Winter’s muscular, dreamy originals, and his daring arrangement of Carla Bley’s “Ida Lupino.” He has collaborated with a wide range of artists live and on record, including Yasmin Williams, jaimie branch, Caroline Rose and Ryley Walker. His concert history spans prestigious music festivals like Primavera Sound and Big Ears, pristine listening rooms, museums, university chapels, laundromat bars, and small rooms in shotgun houses.
“Here, the Chicago-based wunderkind—an accomplished writer with storytelling bonafides beyond the guitar—merges the mythos of his native Texas with jazzy, explosive bombast, like a cowboy on DMT.” — Pitchfork
“Eli Winter’s second turn as bandleader unfolds like a sky bleeding exhaust fumes, alternating pedal steel waltzes and jazz-burnt fuzz bombs. The record starts with an ecstatic riff on a Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell tune and doesn’t really let off the gas.” — NPR
