About this Event
The Migration Matters Lab will host its second annual Spring Symposium on April 19, 2024, from 10a-3p at the UC Merced California Room.
The Symposium’s theme is “Immigrant Families in the U.S.” The day’s event will feature book talks by Drs. Asad L. Asad (assistant professor of Sociology at Stanford University and author of Engage and Evade: How Latino Immigrant Families Manage Surveillance in Everyday Life) and Jane Lilly Lopez (assistant professor of sociology at BYU and author of Unauthorized Love: Mixed-Citizenship Couples Negotiating Immigration, Intimacy, and the State), a catered graduate student lunch with the Drs. Asad and Lopez, and an end-of-day a graduate student panel featuring graduate students across the UC Merced School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts.
Free copies of Asad's and Lopez's will be raffled off to attendees.
Full day attendance is not required but is gently encouraged.
This event is generously co-sponsored by the UC Merced Division of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence.
