Mighty Wurlitzer Pops with Mark Herman

Film and Television composer Nathan Barr invites you to join him at his studio, Bandrika, for a varied musical tour of the famous Barr-Fox Mighty Wurlitzer, including a live accompaniment to the hilarious 1929 Laurel & Hardy short film THAT'S MY WIFE, featuring Stan Laurel donning full drag.

Mark will also perform some of Nathan Barr's compositions, including music from The House With A Clock In Its Walls and Hollywood.

This Barr-Fox Wurlitzer lived on the Newman Scoring Stage at Fox from 1928 to 1998, and can be heard on countless film scores from the 20th century, including The Sound of Music, Patton, Home Alone, and The Day the Earth Stood Still. Since Nathan restored the instrument, it has re-entered the world of contemporary film music, heard in films and television programs such as The Grinch (2018), The House With a Clock in Its Walls (2018), The Addams Family (2019), Carnival Row (2023), and Uncle Frank (2020).

About Mark Herman

Mark Herman is one of America’s busiest theatre organists, performing concerts and silent film presentations across the US and abroad. In 2012, he was named the American Theatre Organ Society’s Organist of the Year and is the youngest person ever to receive the prestigious honor. Previously, he was overall winner of the Society’s Young Theatre Organist Competition in 2004.​

An avid fan of film music and history, Mark is regarded as an accomplished silent film scorer and accompanist, drawing from historic approaches to silent film accompaniment, often composing and assembling scores from the ground up. On the international stage, he has toured in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and his arrangements have been heard both on television and in motion pictures. In 2019, he was honored to be featured alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic for a rare organ solo cameo.
