Midwinter Celebration

Natasha Hood and Linds Bestwicke are bringing their first Merry Meet public event to Norwich.
Join us for an immersive and beautiful weaving of song, poetry, simple ceremony and folklore. Our vision includes an emphasis on community and celebration, drawing on Midwinter and Yule traditions of times past.
Before the Christian festival of Christmas, people celebrated the return of the Sun at Yule. Very simply, the joyous revelries at this time of year were in highest praise and delight at the continuation of LIFE, as evidenced in the return of 'the Unconquered Sun' and the existence of evergreens even in the depths of Winter. It was a festival of hope and thanks-giving, a profoundly joyous celebration at the renewal stage of the birth-death-rebirth cycle of life, and Nature. At the harshest time of the year, it united people, strengthening bonds of kinship and community rooted in a sense of goodwill, belonging and abundance.
