Midsummer Community Day Fundraiser for the Cafes Campaign
About this Event
Thanks to all of you who signed our 25,000 signature petition and the many who chipped in for our legal fund, four of the five North London Open Spaces Cafés are still in independent hands. This day long party is a chance for supporters to meet eachother and our stellar lawyers who can give a heads-up on the forthcoming Judicial Review at the Royal Courts of Justice. To set the tone this event is in London's strangest gothic church, celebrated by architectural critics, where the musical climax will come from The InCureables who first met at the Lido and pledged themselves to reincarnate as a tribute to Crawley's finest goth pop institution, The Cure. As well as a musical exploration we will offer a guided tour to the secrets of this extraordinary place of worship including going up its tower.
More down to earth, but just as unforgettable, Burgundy biodynamic winemaker Celine Coté, will be pouring her latest vintage -- if she misses her faithful mare Absinthe, who ploughs the vineyard, there are horsey friends nearby at the City farm, who we hope will visit.
There will be day long music in the church nave, with north London's finest jazz, classical and kletzmer talent, with faces you'll recognise from the Highgate and Queens Park cafés. We hope to persuade some of our favourite talent to sit in together and offer their own takes on the Great American Songbook.
There will be merchandise sales -- for example our famous personalised crockery from our favourite workshop in Britanny. We will take pre orders, and will show footage of the painters at work. The cafés have inspired some amazing film making, and we will be also showing this on screens in the Choir Vestry.
